Rowan University's Karen Holloway and Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine's Katie Krebs, DVM, record their conversation for the Rowan On podcast.

Rowan University’s podcast, Rowan On, returns with a new season of guests who take smart risks, roll up their sleeves and do work that matters. In the first episode of Season 2, host Karen Holloway sits down with Dr. Katie Krebs, associate professor at the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, to discuss caring for animals, supporting healthy bee colonies and teaching future veterinarians.

Speaking from Rowan’s veterinary medicine building on the University’s West Campus, Krebs shares how a childhood love of animals inspired her career and shaped her belief that caring for pets means supporting the people who love them, too. As a primary care veterinarian and educator, she emphasizes compassion, communication and collaborative care between veterinary teams and pet owners.

Listeners get an inside look at Rowan’s veterinary medicine program and its goal of preparing graduates who are “day-one ready” for practice. Krebs discusses the school’s focus on hands-on learning, practical skills—such as financial literacy, interviewing and career preparation—and the One Health concept, an approach that seeks to improve the well-being of humans, animals and the environment by recognizing the connection of all three.

The episode also explores Krebs’ unique expertise in honeybee medicine. One of the nation’s few bee veterinarians, she explains how beekeeping became a professional passion and describes Rowan’s new bee medicine elective.

Beyond the classroom, Krebs highlights community outreach programs that provide veterinary care to underserved populations and discusses her role as the official veterinarian for the National Dog Show.
