On May 5, the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts honored Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM with four Communicator Awards. The 32nd annual Communicator Awards recognizes the best in media communication. 

The Rowan Report Election Night Special recieved an Award of Excellence in the General Program category and an Award of Distinction for General Production. The three-hour live program provided real-time updates of key elections around the country indlucing the New Jersey governor's race between Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli. The Rowan Radio News Department conducted interviews with political experts and spoke with potential voters on issues impacting their community.

The show was co-anchored by Rowan Radio News Director Marchella Mazzoni, Sydney Cella, Sarah Shockey, Leah Thorpe and produced by Jacob Michaud.

This is the fifth award for The Rowan Report Election Night Special during 2026. It received two Gracie Awards earlier this year; and grabbed a Hermes Creative Award last week in the Audio Program category. 

The Rowan Sports Reviewsecured an Award of Excellence in the General Production division. Hosted by former Rowan Radio Sports Director Owen Colwell, the show featured the latest updates from the Rowan Radio Sports Department on Rowan University Athletics. Also, interviews with athletes and coaches were added throughout the show. The winning entry, which aired on February 14, showcased the Rowan University basketball, swimming, and track and field programs.  

Studio 89.7, a show which focuses on interviews with newsmakers, authors, and celebrities, also prevailed in the Communicator Awards. Hosted by Philadelphia radio veteran Paul Perrello, Studio 89.7 achieved an Award of Distinction for General Interview. Perrello’s interview with Nick Sena, director of Community Development and Partnerships at Rowan University’s Edelman Fossil Park and Museum hauled in the award.  
 
Rowan Radio has won over 400 awards in national and regional competitions since 1993.
