Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM collected two Gracie Awards from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation on Monday.

The Rowan Report Election Night Special won a Gracie Award in the student division’s Best Crisis Coverage/Breaking News category. The live three-hour program covered key election races including the New Jersey gubernatorial contest between Jack Ciattarelli and Mikie Sherrill.

In addition to live coverage, the show included interviews conducted by the Rowan Radio News Department with voters and political experts on issues impacting voters on a local and national basis.

The program was co-anchored by Rowan Radio News Director Marchella Mazzoni, Sydney Cella, Sarah Shockey, and Rowan Radio Co-Operations Manager Leah Thorpe. Jacob Michaud served as the show’s studio producer.

Mazzoni received a Gracie Award for Best Producer due to her work on The Rowan Report Election Night Special. She developed the show’s on-air structure and assisted with editing packages for the program.

During the show, Mazzoni conducted a special interview with Dr. Ben Dworkin, Director of Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship.

“Both awards are an example of what happens when teamwork merges with individual talent. We have talented students that work well together to produce content that is not only award-winning but important to the community,” said Rowan Radio Station Manager Derek Jones.

“The show’s production extends beyond the three hours it airs. From students working with Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner on gathering sources to building the show’s format, it’s an all-encompassing project. Marchella and the station’s news department worked tirelessly to ensure they could air the best program possible,” Jones explained.

The two victories bring Rowan Radio’s Gracie Awards total to 16 all-time. This marks the sixth straight year that WGLS-FM has won a Gracie Award.

Winners in the local and student media division of the Gracie Awards will be honored at a luncheon on Tuesday, June 16 at Cipriani on 42nd Street in New York City.

The Gracie Awards enters its 51st year of showcasing individual achievement and excellent programming created by, for, and about women in all facets of media and entertainment.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won over 400 regional and national awards since 1993 including Best College Radio Station of the Year in 1997, 2022, and 2023.
