The Philadelphia Business Journal has included Rowan University’s Dr. Monika Williams Shealey in an on-going “Women of Distinction” column.

The column has featured such Philadelphia area leaders as Brenda Bacon, president and CEO of Brandywine Living; Dr. Katie McPeak of the CHOP Primary Care Network and University of Pennsylvania; and Dr. Pooja Singh, the Beatrice F. Nicoletti Endowed Professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Business Journal editors wrote that Shealey, senior vice president for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and a former dean of the College of Education, may have been born to teach, a calling she realized after taking an elective focused on the educational needs of the intellectually disabled.

“That course changed my life,” Shealey told the Business Journal.

The publication interviewed Shealey on a range of issues including the biggest challenges women face, especially in the workforce; her role supporting other women; how the ongoing pandemic changed how she leads; and a piece of advice she'd give her younger self.

"Travel the world and trust that you are enough," she said.

Far from her first significant honor, the Business Journal article followed her recognition, last June, by the publication ROI-NJ as one of New Jersey’s most influential DEI leaders.
