Learn.Org, a clearinghouse of information about majors, financial aid, careers and university rankings, released a study this week that placed Rowan University’s online bachelor’s degree in psychology at #23 in the nation.

Rowan, which offers a vast array of online programs, from certificates through doctoral degrees via its division of Global Learning & Partnerships, has invested heavily in increasing access to a college education. The University’s online programs are flexible, easily accessible and offered in formats that many students, especially working people and parents of young children, find preferable over an on-campus college experience.

Learn.Org’s study follows one by U.S. News & World Report, which in January ranked six Rowan programs among the best in the nation.

The web site’s editors noted that an online bachelor’s degree in psychology is extremely valuable and can lead to careers in a wide range of fields, but it did not include all schools that offer one.

“To make our list, we took into account the flexibility and affordability of the online psychology degree offered as well as the support that these schools offer online students,” editors wrote.

Rowan, which like most colleges and universities moved classes online for the latter part of the Spring 2020 semester to protect students and employees from the coronavirus outbreak, has long supported online education, and recognized University leaders in the format in November with an inaugural Excellence in Online Learning Awards ceremony.

For the fall semester, of roughly 19,500 students attending Rowan, 10,561 took one or more online or in-person/hybrid courses of 492 online/hybrid classes offered.

Dr. Thomas Dinzeo, acting department head of Psychology within the College of Science & Mathematics, said Rowan’s psychology program has long been one of its most popular, and the online version expands opportunities for students to benefit from it.

“Psychology is popular at Rowan because of a committed, highly-accomplished faculty who love sharing their passion for the field with the next generation of professionals,” Dinzeo said. “Our inclusion on the Learn.Org list is, of course, gratifying, and it affirms the commitment we have to our students.”
