Rowan to open Esports & Gaming Center in January 2027

Rowan University will open an Esports & Gaming Center in January 2027, expanding opportunities for student engagement, experiential learning and participation in the rapidly growing esports and gaming industries.  

Located at 109 High Street on Rowan Boulevard, the center will serve as a hub for the Rowan community, bringing students together while creating opportunities to compete, collaborate and connect while developing skills aligned with careers in esports, gaming and related industries.

The facility previously operated in partnership with Nerd Street and will now be managed by Rowan University’s Center for Esports, housed within Student Centers & Campus Activities.

By operating the center directly, Rowan will be able to better align programming, leadership development and academic experiences with the University’s broader educational mission. 

“The Esports & Gaming Center represents an investment in the overall student experience,” said Rowan University vice chancellor for Student Life and dean of students Kevin Koett. “It provides students with a place to connect, collaborate and engage around shared interests while fostering a sense of belonging that is essential to student well-being and success.”

The 7,100-square-foot center will feature console gaming stations, more than 60 competitive gaming PCs, team and collaboration spaces, viewing areas and dedicated spaces for organized esports competition and recreational gaming. Rowan plans to enhance the facility’s technology, hardware and infrastructure before opening.

In addition to providing a dedicated space for gaming and competition, the center will expand opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in event management, broadcasting, production, marketing and communications, technology and team management.

The center builds on Rowan’s continued investment in esports as an emerging academic and professional field. In 2024, the University established an esports major and two certificates of undergraduate study designed to prepare students for careers in the evolving industry.

“Esports is a growing industry with opportunities that extend beyond competition. This center will give students opportunities to gain hands-on experience, explore career pathways and apply what they’re learning in the classroom in a real-world setting,” said Joe Lizza, senior director for Student Centers & Campus Activities.
