Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine welcomes its second class at stethoscope ceremony

Marking the start of their doctoral education, 90 aspiring veterinary students received their stethoscopes on Aug. 27 and were celebrated by Rowan University administrators, Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine faculty and staff, current students and loved ones.
Among the second class enrolled in the State’s first and only veterinary school, 50 New Jersey students represent 15 of its 21 counties.
The Littman stethoscopes, all donated by Nutramax Laboratories, included notes of encouragement written by practicing veterinarians or family members.
“We have a huge network of almost 4,000 veterinarians in New Jersey who are here to support you,” said Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine Founding Dean Matthew Edson. “These are words that are very good to think about through the next four years. It's veterinary school. It's designed to be hard. It's designed to prepare you for a difficult career. But you have a network of people here to help you.”
Attendees also heard from Stephanie Fisher, one of the 75 members of the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine inaugural class and the president of Rowan’s Student American Veterinary Medical Association, who echoed Edson’s sentiments about the School’s camaraderie.
“I know exactly what it’s like to be in your seats,” said Fisher. “The best thing ever is that you guys have Rowan’s beautiful community to help you through that. You have a whole class above you. We have been there before. We understand what it’s like to be nervous, to not know what to expect and we want to cheer you on.”
Founded in 2025 with a $30 million gift to support student scholarships from the late philanthropist, animal lover and businessman Gerry Shreiber, the School teaches the One Health concept, a globally recognized approach that emphasizes the interconnection of human, animal and environmental health. Rowan University is one of only two universities in the nation to offer M.D., D.O. and DVM medical programs.
