Rowan University’s Student Center receives International Architecture Award 

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies presented Rowan with The International Architecture Award for 2026 for the Chamberlain Student Center expansion, the Agora.

The Agora, Greek for “a central gathering place,” opened on Rowan’s campus in March 2025. It connects to Rowan’s Chamberlain Student Center and includes a student commons, meeting rooms, a cafe and modern workstations for students. The building’s architecture and materials are a nod to the New Jersey Pine Barrens with native plantings and mass timber framings. 

The builders responsible for the project, ikon.5 architects, submitted the Agora to the Museum of Architecture for award consideration. Now in its 21st year, The International Architectural Awards are the oldest and most prestigious distinguished global building awards program that honors new and cutting-edge design worldwide. An international jury composed of several distinguished designers worked remotely and selected over 250 Awards and Honorable Mentions from a shortlist of over 1,200 submitted projects.
