Dear Rowan University Community,

I write today with mixed emotions to share that John Zabinski, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Rowan University Foundation, informed me that he plans to retire from Rowan University on October 1.

John joined Rowan in July 2015, bringing decades of experience in higher education fundraising and campaign leadership. From his first days here, he strengthened our philanthropic efforts, expanded our reach, and helped build the momentum that has propelled Rowan’s transformation over the past decade. During both periods of his career at Rowan, from 2015 to 2020 and again beginning in April 2024, John has led our philanthropic strategy and activities, supervising the division’s professionals in donor engagement, alumni relations, advancement services and stewardship.

Under John's leadership, Rowan conducted its first comprehensive fundraising campaign, a $120 million effort that advanced academic expansion, research growth and student success. Upon John’s return in 2024, he guided our most recent campaign, Forging Forward, which raised more than $244.7 million. His work has been instrumental in Rowan’s rise to become a nationally recognized research university and a major regional economic catalyst.

On behalf of the entire Rowan community, I extend my deepest gratitude to John for his service, his leadership and his commitment to our mission. We wish him the very best in retirement.

I am pleased to share that Brittany Petrella, associate vice president for University Advancement, has agreed to serve as interim vice president for University Advancement.

Brittany is an accomplished leader and has held several leadership roles in University Advancement since 2011. Throughout her tenure, she has played a key role in advancing Rowan's philanthropic priorities and strengthening relationships with donors and alumni.

We are fortunate to have Brittany guiding the division and our philanthropic work during this transition.

Please join me in thanking John for his many contributions to Rowan University and in celebrating his distinguished career.

Sincerely,

Ali A. Houshmand
President
