Appreciation and resolve as we enter FY27
Appreciation and resolve as we enter FY27
This incredible legislative support has been a foundation of our growth and success. It has positioned Rowan as a primary catalyst for growth in South Jersey and across the state.
And while we faced challenging budget prospects for FY27—Rowan was proposed for $30 million in cuts primarily to veterinary and medical school initiatives and appropriations—we knew we would not face it alone. And we were right.
At the end of June, through the effort and leadership of our many friends in the Legislature, 80 percent of Rowan’s proposed cuts were restored with the adoption of the FY27 State Appropriations Act and a supplemental spending bill.
As we move into the work of this coming academic year, it is important that we not overlook the effort and leadership it took by so many in the Legislature to secure this incredible outcome.
For that reason, I want to express my deepest appreciation to the Legislature, particularly those elected officials representing South Jersey, who championed Rowan University throughout the FY27 budget process. Their consistent advocacy, with support from Governor Sherrill, demonstrates a profound commitment to our institution and to a stronger South Jersey.
As the new academic year approaches, I am optimistic that our growth and influence will continue, enhancing our academic offerings and services to our students, and our service to New Jersey.
Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you, our employees, for your continued commitment to Rowan and our students. The support we received this budget cycle reflects years of work by the entire Rowan community. Together, we have demonstrated that when resources are entrusted to Rowan, we put them to work in ways that benefit our students, advance research and innovation, and strengthen South Jersey and our state. Those efforts have earned us the credibility necessary to build the trust and enduring partnerships that proved invaluable during this challenging budget season.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication to all those we serve.
And thank you, again, to those in the Legislature who made it their priority this budget cycle to ensure that Rowan University has the resources it needs to serve our students, South Jersey and the state.
Yours truly,
Ali A. Houshmand
President
