Rowan University and Nebius collaborate to advance AI education and workforce development
Glassboro, N.J. — In alignment with New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s call for data‑center companies to invest in the communities they serve and help create high‑quality local jobs, Rowan University and Nebius, the AI cloud company, are working together to expand AI education and strengthen the state’s innovation workforce.
The collaboration brings together Rowan’s strengths as a top‑100 public research institution with robust online delivery capabilities and Nebius Academy, the company’s education and research arm. Together, the organizations will develop academic pathways that expand access to high‑quality training in AI, data science, cloud computing, and related technology fields—supporting both statewide workforce needs and the broader digital economy.
“Our partnership with Nebius Academy strengthens our efforts to expand access to cutting‑edge AI and computing education,” said Ali A. Houshmand, president of Rowan University. “By collaborating with a company operating on a global scale, we are building pathways that prepare all of our students, in all majors, for meaningful careers and help drive innovation across New Jersey, the nation, and the world.”
Governor Sherrill has emphasized that data‑center operators must contribute to local economic development, in part by building a talent pipeline that benefits New Jersey residents. The collaboration between Rowan and Nebius Academy directly advances that vision by creating new opportunities for students, adult learners, and workers seeking to reskill for emerging technology roles.
A Shared Commitment to Workforce Development
Under the agreement, Rowan and Nebius Academy will explore and implement initiatives such as:
- Development of online and in‑person programs designed for diverse populations, including traditional students, adult learners, and individuals seeking reskilling or upskilling opportunities
- Creation of stackable credentials, including short‑form training, certificates, and potential degree‑aligned programs
- Alignment of educational offerings with emerging industry needs, particularly those supporting AI infrastructure and next‑generation technologies
- Integration of hands‑on, project‑based learning and real‑world applications
- Collaboration to strengthen faculty expertise, expand instructional resources, and explore shared technology infrastructure
“Nebius Academy is proud to be working with Rowan University to help develop the next generation of AI and computing talent,” said Rachel McGalliard, Director, AI Workforce Policy & Partnerships at Nebius. “We are committed to bringing long-term benefits to the communities where Nebius operates, and Rowan’s commitment to access, excellence, and community impact aligns perfectly with this. By combining our technological capabilities with Rowan’s academic leadership, we are creating opportunities that empower students and strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem.”
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that New Jersey’s growing technology sector is matched by strong educational pathways, local job creation, and inclusive access to opportunity—priorities championed by Governor Sherrill and embraced by both organizations.
