At precisely noon on Match Day, fourth-year students at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) joined thousands of medical students across the country in learning where they will continue their graduate medical education—marking a pivotal step in their journeys as physicians.

This year, 105 CMSRU medical students participated in the Match. Once again, CMSRU achieved a 100% overall NRMP match rate. Notably, across all 11 graduating classes since its founding, CMSRU’s match rate has exceeded the national average of approximately 94% for U.S. MD seniors, underscoring the strength of the school’s academic programs and student support.

“Match Day represents the culmination of years of education and sacrifice,” said Annette C. Reboli, MD, dean of CMSRU. “This moment reflects not only our students’ achievements, but also the exceptional education and mentorship that prepares them for the next phase of their journey.”

Match highlights

Of the Class of 2026, 53.3% (56 students) matched into primary care specialties, continuing CMSRU’s strong commitment to addressing critical physician workforce needs. This includes:

  • 35 in internal medicine
  • 4 in family medicine
  • 8 in pediatrics
  • 8 in obstetrics and gynecology

Beyond primary care, CMSRU students matched into a wide range of specialties, including anesthesiology, emergency medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Students also secured placements in highly competitive fields such as plastic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology and vascular surgery.

Commitment to New Jersey and beyond

CMSRU continues to play a vital role in strengthening New Jersey’s physician workforce in partnership with Cooper University Health Care. This year, 32.4% of CMSRU graduates will remain in New Jersey for residency programs, including 17 who will continue their graduate medical education at CMSRU/Cooper, further advancing care for patients across the region.

Members of the Class of 2026 will also continue their medical education at leading institutions across the country, including Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Brown University, Boston University Medical Center, Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Mayo Clinic, Mount Sinai Hospital, NYU Grossman, Tufts Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medical Center, University of California, Irvine, and UMass Chan Medical School.

With another strong Match outcome, CMSRU students continue to demonstrate academic excellence, resilience, and readiness to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities.

“Our students’ success speaks to their talent and determination, and to the unwavering commitment of our faculty and staff,” Reboli added. “We are proud to see them take this next step as they begin their careers in medicine.”
