Be prepared...stay Rowan Alert!

Rowan University’s idyllic campus settings provide a strong sense of safety and security for all who work, study and visit here. As the University has grown, so has its investment in layers of security systems, including: cameras, license plate readers, blue-light emergency phones, mass notification systems, swipe card access systems and extensive training for our police, security and other staff members.

Unfortunately, emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Because they do, the University attempts to minimize risk through traditional policing and with a wide array of initiatives including:

• A variety of reports to share general and specific thoughts and concerns that are reviewed by designated officials;
• Counselors who work with faculty to identify individuals struggling with personal issues;
• The Division of Student Life’s Situation Threat Assessment Team, which identifies and appropriately responds to issues; 
• Rowan Police patrols lots, including in and surrounding neighborhoods. The department also offers escort and shuttle services.

Rowan Alert
We strongly encourage every member of the Rowan University community to register to receive Rowan Alert messages (see rowan.edu/emergency). Those registered receive text and email messages about emergencies and will be among the first to know incident information as it becomes available.

While social media platforms are wonderful communication tools and can be extremely helpful in tracking emergencies as they develop, social media can amplify misinformation and help spread rumors. In the event of an actual emergency, always depend on official Rowan messaging for the most accurate and timely information through Rowan Alerts and, in extreme cases, the Rowan homepage.

Public Safety’s website contains several pages of information about how to respond to a crisis, including an active shooter response guide and awareness training.

Rowan University offers its students, employees and visitors added safety on its campuses through a custom safety app. From maps to a virtual walk-home partner to support resources to Rowan Alert messages, RowanSafe can give you peace of mind.
