Spring enrollment data show that roughly 58% of Rowan’s student population—11,628 students—take at least one online course and that about 1,700 are in 100% online programs.

Today’s college students, especially those fresh out of high school or already in the workforce, often prefer the flexibility of online learning, said Rowan Online CEO Michael Roark.

“There’s an attraction for current undergraduates, but there’s also a big appeal to alumni seeking a graduate degree or working people who might not have gone to college but want to,” Roark said.

In fact, students from health care and the construction trades increasingly find their best options with Rowan Online’s flexibility for both learners and employers.

Through its partnership with Virtua Health in nursing education, Rowan Online has developed an array of degree and career advancement certificate programs that will address the severe nursing shortage New Jersey faces in the next decade.

An industry-transforming arrangement with construction trade unions is giving workers academic credits for apprenticeships and preparing them to complete bachelor’s degrees in construction management.

“Rowan Online is listening to students and industry experts, giving them the courses and programs they want, delivered how they want,” Roark said.

Rowan has a goal of increasing enrollment by 10,000 students over the next 5-10 years, and Rowan Online will play a big role in helping us get there. In the short run, the University will focus on course development in about 20 program areas, working with faculty to transform materials for online students.
