Soon-to-be doctors from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University celebrate Match Day 2025

The tension built as the clock approached noon. Then, in a moment of pure anticipation and joy, cheers and tears filled the The Collingswood Ballroom as fourth-year medical students from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) tore open their envelopes, revealing where they will spend the next phase of their medical education. Surrounded by family, friends, faculty, deans and staff, the soon-to-be doctors celebrated this defining milestone together at a ceremony filled with excitement, pride, and heartfelt embraces.
Match Day is a pivotal moment for medical students nationwide, marking the moment they learn the specialty and location of their residency programs. For the CMSRU Class of 2025, this year’s ceremony was particularly special as it marked the school’s 10th Match Day and the largest graduating class in its history, with 111 students securing their residency placements for a 100% Match rate.
"Match Day is a celebration of years of hard work, resilience, and dedication," said Annette C. Reboli, MD, dean of CMSRU. "This moment not only charts the next phase of the medical education journey but also reflects the exceptional education and preparation our students have received. I’m incredibly proud of the Class of 2025 and their success in The Match."
Match Highlights
Of the 111 students in CMSRU’s Class of 2025, 57 (51%) matched into primary care specialties, reinforcing the school’s commitment to addressing the national need for primary care physicians. This includes:
- 42 in internal or family medicine
- 6 in pediatrics
- 9 in obstetrics and gynecology
Beyond primary care, CMSRU students matched into a diverse range of specialties, including psychiatry, emergency medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, diagnostic radiology, neurology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. CMSRU students also secured placements in some of the most competitive fields such as orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, and vascular surgery.
Commitment to New Jersey & national excellence
CMSRU continues to play a vital role in strengthening New Jersey’s healthcare workforce. This year, 45 (41%) of graduates will remain in New Jersey for residency training, with 23 continuing at CMSRU/Cooper University Health Care.
Many students also earned residency positions at some of the most prestigious programs in the country, including: Boston University, Brown University, Cleveland Clinic, Emory University, Mass General-Harvard University, Johns Hopkins, Nemours Childrens, New York Presbyterian-Weil Cornell, Ohio State, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, and Yale University.
With a 100% match rate, exceeding the national average of 93.5% for U.S. medical school seniors, CMSRU students continue to demonstrate academic excellence and career readiness.
"Our students' outstanding match results reflect their talent, perseverance, and the strength of CMSRU’s medical education," added Dean Reboli. "The caliber of residency programs they’re joining, both in New Jersey and across the country, is a testament to their hard work and the dedication of our faculty."
