Navigating change while advancing our mission

Last week, the U.S. Department of Education issued new guidance regarding the enforcement of federal civil rights laws in higher education. I am aware that many faculty and staff across our community have questions and concerns about this shift in policy.

I also understand that other changes in federal policies and executive orders have raised concerns within our community as well, and these changes in policy and guidance may have implications for certain programs and initiatives at Rowan. I have asked my team to review the details carefully and work to ensure that our policies and practices remain in full compliance with the law while continuing to support the success of every member of our community.

As we navigate these changes, I encourage open dialogue and will provide updates as more information becomes available. We’ve developed resources to help the University better understand changes happening at the federal level. We’ll continue to keep those updated.

But while we work to address these concerns and questions, please know that one thing has not changed: Rowan University remains dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, faculty and staff. And though changes are happening, Rowan’s resilience lies in the fact that when faced with change, we have always doubled down on our core values, mission and strategic values of access, affordability, quality and economic impact.

When viewed through this lens, I am greatly encouraged by our momentum. Just last week, we celebrated the construction of the new home for the Rowan-Virtua Rita & Larry Salva School of Nursing & Health Professions, rising now on the West Campus. Next month, we’ll open the doors to the new Edelman Fossil Park & Museum, among the world’s most anticipated museum openings.

In April, we’ll celebrate the future of education through the official opening of our Dreamscape Learn virtual reality center, an exciting venture aimed at enhancing learning through technology. And in September, we’ll welcome Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine’s first class of students, the first in New Jersey.

You’ve heard me say it before: This is only the beginning.

Even as our campuses continue to transform, our mission and strategic pillars remain clearly in focus. Our commitment to undergraduate education and investment in research are what have made us the nation’s third-fastest growing public research university.

With your unwavering dedication and hard work, I have no doubt we will continue our rapid transformation—ever forward.

Yours truly,
