Celebrated climate scientist Michael E. Mann to lead Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series Feb. 24

Michael E. Mann, Ph.D., a Presidential Distinguished Professor of Earth & Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania with a secondary appointment to the Annenberg School for Communication, comes to Rowan University Feb. 24 as part of the Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series.
Mann will speak to the gravity of the planet’s worsening climate during the program, “Our Fragile Moment: How Lessons from Earth’s Past Can Help Us Survive the Climate Crisis.”
The free lecture will help listeners better grasp the severity of the global climate crisis and embolden them to take actions to lessen the impact.
World-renowned climate scientist
Mann, who is also vice provost for Climate Science, Policy and Action at Penn and director of the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability and the Media, has received many honors and awards. He, with other members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and former Vice President Al Gore, contributed to a body of work that was recognized with the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Mann received the Award for Public Engagement with Science from the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2018, followed by the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement in 2019.
In 2020, he was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and, in 2023, was named Humanist of the Year by the American Humanist Association. He was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in 2024.
A 2025 inductee into The Explorers Club, Mann has authored numerous books including “The Madhouse Effect,” “The New Climate War,” and “Our Fragile Moment: How Lessons from Earth's Past Can Help Us Survive the Climate Crisis.”

Time: Seminar and Q&A 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30). A book signing will begin at 8:30.
Location: Eynon Ballroom, Chamberlain Student Center. This seminar is in-person only and will not be recorded. Click for map.

Cost: Free
Book Signing: Our Fragile Moment will be on sale before and after the seminar and Dr. Mann will sign copies starting at 8:30 p.m. in the lobby.
