Rowan launches first Art of Rowan Research Contest
The painstaking work of science and creative inquiry can sometimes result in thought-provoking or even awe-inspiring imagery.
Whether it’s a graphic visualization of ocean surface currents spinning around the globe, a map of neural connections in the brain of a fruit fly, or a photograph of the Vela Supernova Remnant, images produced through research can affect their viewers deeply.
And sometimes, they’re just really cool.
To celebrate the hidden artistry of scientific research and creative inquiry underway on its campuses, Rowan University has launched its first Art of Rowan Research Contest. The competition is open to all Rowan-affiliated students and there is no fee to apply.
Entries may include microscopy, photographs taken in the lab or in the field, graphic illustrations or drawings.
A panel of judges will select winning entries based on their scientific and artistic value. The judges are:
- Tabbetha Dobbins, Ph.D., professor of physics and dean of the School of Graduate Studies
- Lori Marshall, assistant vice president of University Relations
- Mary Salvante, director and chief curator, Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum
- Andrew Hottle, professor of art history and communication studies, Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts
Winners will receive up to $500 for their entry. The deadline for submissions is March 4, 2025.
Submissions may be displayed on Rowan campuses or used in Rowan publications or websites. Awards will be announced during Rowan Research Day on March 26, 2025.
