Montréal, Québec – Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, and CGI Technologies and Solutions, Inc., headquartered in Montréal, have entered into an academic affiliation agreement as part of Choose New Jersey’s Governor-led mission to Canada. The agreement will assist in professional development for staff and students, establish research opportunities, and create meaningful internships for students.

“This partnership between Rowan University and CGI is a great example of how New Jersey continues to foster innovation and build strong public-private collaborations that benefit both our students and our economy,” said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. “By creating opportunities for internships, research, and workforce development, this agreement will not only support the growth of South Jersey, but also help secure our state’s position as a leader in the technology and business sectors. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this partnership will have on the state’s workforce and the local community.”

CGI is among the largest IT and business consulting firms in the world, with 400 locations, including offices in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Rowan University President Ali A. Houshmand noted that the agreement with the international technology firm complements Rowan’s global reach.

“We have a culture at Rowan University of working directly with firms to meet their needs while expanding opportunities for researchers and our students,” President Houshmand said. “This partnership will lead to the development of research alongside CGI related to information technology and artificial intelligence while preparing students to become industry leaders, whether within CGI or for other leading firms.”

“We are excited to partner with Rowan University in this forward-thinking initiative that aligns perfectly with CGI’s commitment to fostering innovation and developing a highly skilled workforce,” said Mike Reagan, Senior Vice President of Consulting Services at CGI. “By collaborating on curriculum development, research, and hands-on learning opportunities, we are not only investing in the future of CGI but also helping to shape the next generation of leaders in technology and business. This partnership reflects our belief in the transformative power of education and our dedication to making a positive impact in the communities where we operate.”

CGI and Rowan plan to develop paid internships for undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines, including engineering, computer science, math, and business. The agreement also includes developing opportunities for guest lecturing, joint research, and other collaboration by staff and faculty.

The affiliation could potentially lead to the development of certificate programs to spur workforce development in the region.

“This collaboration between Rowan University and CGI is a testament to New Jersey’s dynamic ecosystem that fosters innovation, education, and business growth,” said Wesley Mathews, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey. “By establishing this academic affiliation, CGI is investing not only in Rowan’s talented students but also in the future of South Jersey as a hub for technology and business development. We are proud to support partnerships like this that help strengthen New Jersey’s workforce and drive long-term economic success.”
