Rowan University has established a new college focused on student support—and student success. University College brings together departments and resources to support all students through academic advising, success coaching, career counseling, pre-health programs and other services.

“Even as Rowan University continues to grow, one of our top priorities is student achievement and degree completion. University College will give our students the resources and services they need to reach their academic, personal and professional goals,” says Rowan President Ali A. Houshmand.

The academic home for students in exploratory studies and pre-business programs, University College focuses on key transition points in the college journey, assisting students to reach their academic potential and to be career-ready. The College oversees academic offerings focused on student success such as Rowan 101, a course designed to give first-year students the tools and information they need to become engaged members of the campus community.

Additionally, the College leads Rowan’s offerings in experiential education and supports the infusion of applied learning experiences through the curriculum, according to University College Dean and Vice President for Student Affairs Rory McElwee.

Whether through academic advising, accessibility services, academic support programs, or career planning and exploration, the College addresses students’ needs in a holistic way, according to McElwee.

“University College is a hub and a catalyst for student success initiatives across the University,” says McElwee. “The College works collaboratively with all of Rowan’s schools and colleges to provide the best learning practices available for our students.

“We built the College to support students’ academic success, while also addressing their wellness, their engagement with campus and their career goals. We expect every student to use services provided through University College.”
