Cosgrove appointed to Rowan’s Board of Trustees
Healthcare executive and Rowan University alumnus Joseph C. Cosgrove '00 was appointed to the University’s Board of Trustees during its April 10 meeting.
President, chief executive officer and board member of Leiters Health, an FDA-registered 503B outsourcing provider of high-quality compounded medications and pharmacy services, Cosgrove (at right) was appointed by Governor Phil Murphy to a five-year term on the board. His term will expire in 2029.
A graduate of Rowan’s William G. Rohrer College of Business with a bachelor’s degree in business administration/marketing, Cosgrove is a recognized innovator across the healthcare services industry with more than 30 years of experience successfully transforming healthcare companies through exceptional periods of profitable growth and shareholder returns.
Leiters Health announced that in 2025 it is opening a 110,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Buena, NJ, positioning it to respond to the increasing demand for its products and services, while creating specialized pharmaceutical jobs in South Jersey.
“Mr. Cosgrove is one of health care’s greatest innovators and leaders,” said Ali A. Houshmand, president of Rowan University. “Under his leadership, Leiters’ expansion into South Jersey will provide the region with more job opportunities in a new and growing sector. We look forward to benefiting from his vision and broad experiences in health care.”
Before joining Leiters in 2023, Cosgrove was chairman, president and chief executive officer for 14 years of Pentec Health, the nation’s largest privately owned sterile compounding pharmacy. He led the company through unprecedented expansion, diversification and profitability.
Formerly vice president and general manager for several operating units of Cardinal Health, Inc., Cosgrove’s early career was distinguished by executive roles at DuPont Pharmaceuticals Company and Neuman Health Services, Inc.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Cosgrove received Rowan’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2022. He will accept an honorary Doctor of Entrepreneurship degree at this year’s Commencement on May 4.
“I’m honored to have been chosen to serve on Rowan University’s Board of Trustees,” said Cosgrove. “I’m humbled to give back to the University that gave me so much and hope that my contributions can make a difference in the lives of current and future students. I look forward to collaborating with the board to guide Rowan University's strategic direction, ensuring its long-term success and upholding its mission of providing high-quality education to the students it serves.”
At Rowan, Cosgrove serves on the advisory board and as an entrepreneur in residence for the Rohrer College of Business.
His many awards throughout his distinguished career include the Velocity 50 Winner’s List, the Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year, the American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence Award and the SmartCEO Corporate Culture Award, among many others.
In 2015, he was a Philly 100 CEO Hall of Fame Society inductee. That same year, he received the Philly 100 Founder’s Distinguished Achievement Award and the National Kidney Foundation Leadership in Business Award.
Cosgrove currently serves on the boards for Leiters Health, Arizona State University, Discovery Ministries and Titan Aviation Group LLC.
He also has served on boards for the National Home Infusion Association, Aerosol Science Laboratories, Inc., the National Kidney Foundation and the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, where he was a member of the executive committee and the diversity and inclusion committee.
