Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision to eliminate race as a consideration in admissions processes is broadly considered a setback in the progress made toward equity across our nation. I believe, however, we should not see this as the death knell for the fight against discrimination, but rather a call to action.

While New Jersey has long prohibited state institutions from directly considering race in admissions and hiring practices, we must continue to work toward eliminating barriers and creating a level playing field for all.

At Rowan, we will continue to examine our practices and policies to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for everyone.

We will foster an inclusive campus culture where all members of our community feel valued, respected and supported.

We will continue to promote dialogue, celebrate diversity, encourage intercultural interactions and raise awareness of underrepresented groups’ perspectives.

At Rowan, we provide a pathway to a four-year degree to every student who applies, irrespective of race or even the ability to pay. We are very intentional in our recruitment and acceptance process to ensure we are equitable to all.

A diverse University community enriches the educational experience for everyone. Let us continue to work together so all can participate fully in the privilege of education and to share its benefits broadly.

Thank you for your support and dedication to Rowan University’s diverse and inclusive academic community.

Yours truly,
