Rowan University President Ali A. Houshmand this month joined the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Power 101 list, a group of leaders the publication said are indelibly shaping the region.

Writing in a preface to the special edition, Business Journal Editor-in-Chief Ryan Sharrow commented that, “the Power 101 is not a ranking, but rather a guide that aims to reflect the most influential people at this moment in time. The editorial staff of the Business Journal selected those who made the list, which does not include elected officials.

“The staff considered not only those who hold powerful positions, but also those helping to shape the future of their respective industries. The list is intended to go beyond just a ‘who's who of CEOs,’ and selections were made across a variety of sectors holding important roles in the Philadelphia economy.”

Houshmand joined such other prominent leaders on the list as Michael Innocenzo, CEO of PECO and chair of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia; Erika James, dean of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; and Loree D. Jones, CEO of Philabundance.

“In just over a decade,” editors wrote of Rowan’s seventh president, “Ali Houshmand has transformed the University, but his ambitions for the South Jersey school are boundless. In the next decade, Houshmand wants to nearly double enrollment, grow the endowment to over $1 billion and spend $500 million on capital projects. Meanwhile, the school is progressing quickly on its partnership with Virtua Health to create the Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences of Rowan University.”
