Thorough and thoughtful examination

Dear Rowan University Community,

Late in the day yesterday, a video of a student who used offensive language, including a racial slur, was shared with the University. Today it made its way onto social media. We are actively investigating the matter. 

This language is unacceptable, divisive and potentially destructive to our community. As a result, we take these reports and actions seriously.

While we continue to investigate and identify all involved, there may be multiple violations of our community standards committed by several people in this incident. 

As is typical in situations like this, careful investigation reveals multiple and complex layers that demand thorough and thoughtful examination and response. As always, we encourage our community to demonstrate civility and respect for one another. 

Thank you for your patience in this process and for the numerous reports we have received to help address the matter.
