Dr. Richard T. Jermyn named interim dean of Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine
We are pleased to announce that Richard T. Jermyn, D.O., has been appointed interim dean of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (Rowan-Virtua SOM). Currently, vice dean of the medical school, Dr. Jermyn will now assume oversight of all academic, research, and clinical affairs at the medical school.
Dr. Jermyn is one of those rare individuals who has a breadth of experience in all aspects of medical education. He enjoys a prominent national reputation in education and research and has led the growth of Rowan’s NeuroMusculoskeletal Institute to become the region’s premier multi-disciplinary center for pain management and related services. In addition, his deep commitment to helping others was never more evident than during the COVID epidemic when he led efforts to bring life-saving vaccinations to South Jersey’s migrant, homeless and other underserved groups.
Dr. Jermyn earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and followed that with a residency in Physical Medicine at Temple University/Moss Rehabilitation Hospital. His career focus spans HIV, chronic pain and addiction medicine. During that time, he established the nation’s first medical school curriculum covering the prescription of opioids and his research has netted more than $24 million in funding, including grants to educate all providers in NJ on the appropriate prescription of opioids. The American Osteopathic Foundation’s Educator of the Year in 2019 is among his many teaching awards.
We thank all of those who nominated individuals to the search committee for this position. A national search to identify a permanent dean for Rowan-Virtua SOM will begin in the next month.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jermyn as he begins his new role as interim dean.
Very truly yours,
