Dear Rowan Community and Friends,

Let me be the first to say it: Outstanding job—to everyone in the University community, as well as our friends who support us every day.

Rowan University is now the third fastest-growing public research university in the nation, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2022-2023 Almanac, published this week.

That’s tremendous.

Between 2010 and 2020, our enrollment jumped from 11,300 students to 19,678 students, a 74.1% increase in a decade, the Chronicle reported. At last count, our numbers are even higher. During the 2021 academic year, we had nearly 23,000 unique students.

Such figures reflect real, sustained growth because we, as a community, dared to make bold moves, to think differently, to move quickly. As a result, this is a much different institution than it was a short time ago.

Think of what we’ve achieved together in 10 years: more professional certificates; more degree pathways and programs; more academic buildings and student residential space; recognition as a top 100 public university; Carnegie R2 (high research activity) designation; new partnerships, including a transformational $85 million commitment from Virtua Health; not to mention, two medical schools, with a veterinary school on the way.

I’m exceedingly proud of what we have all accomplished. Of course, our work continues, as we develop more research and graduate programs, especially in the biomedical fields.

Given our excellent track record, I have no doubt we will do even greater things in the future.

Very truly yours,

Ali A. Houshmand, Ph.D.
