Commencement 2022: All the excitement, just a day later

Dear Class of 2022 and University Community,

The festive signs of Commencement are all over campus and excitement keeps building—but the weather isn’t cooperating.

In fact, the forecast is for rain and wind that would make it uncomfortable for the 4,000 graduates and their guests who we’ve prepared to welcome to Wackar Stadium tomorrow.

Of course, we’ve all become experts in resilience and flexibility over the past couple years, so we’re ready to go with “Plan B” this weekend.

With clearer skies forecast later, we’ll restart the celebration on Sunday, May 8, at 10 a.m., with all of the festivities of the ceremony and campus party afterward. Our back-up plan will add one more joyous memory to Mother’s Day—a fitting way to celebrate Mother’s Day together. And in case it’s still drizzly, we’ll have free rain ponchos for everyone.

I look forward to seeing the Class of 2022 and loved ones fill Wackar Stadium and then enjoy the campus celebration afterward.

See you Sunday!

Very truly yours,

Ali A. Houshmand, Ph.D.
