International honor society names Rowan to transfer student Honor Roll
For the second consecutive year, international honor society Phi Theta Kappa has named Rowan University to its Transfer Honor Roll.
The organization included Rowan among 150 colleges and universities that actively work to increase access to a four-year undergraduate degree for transfer students, many of whom start their undergraduate experience in community colleges.
“Transfer students are a significant part of the Rowan University community and they contribute greatly to the quality and culture of our campus," said Dr. Jimmy Jung, vice president for Strategic Enrollment Management. "We are grateful to be included on the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll, which recognizes our commitment to transfer students' success."
Fausto Vasquez, assistant director in Rowan’s Office of Admissions, said the honor speaks to an institution-wide commitment to transfer students, many of whom come to the University from southern N.J. community colleges.
“The surrounding community colleges, including Rowan College of South Jersey (with campuses in Gloucester and Cumberland counties) are our biggest feeder schools,” Vasquez said.
He said Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing and Rowan College of Burlington County also send many students to Rowan as do Rutgers, Stockton and Montclair State universities.
Vasquez said of Rowan’s roughly 16,000 enrolled undergraduates for the 2020-21 academic year, about half are transfer students and that about 2,800 students transfer to the University each year.
