As part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets the highest professional standards, the Rowan University Department Public Safety is scheduled for an on-site assessment on Tuesday, Nov. 3, by CALEA, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.

CALEA’s accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 3:30 p.m. The session will be conducted virtually via Zoom.

Agency employees and the public also are invited to offer comments by calling 856-256-5504 from 1-3 p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the Standards is available in the office of the Department of Public Safety in Bole Annex. For information, contact Steve Rolando the department’s accreditation manager, at rolando@rowan.edu.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Rowan University Department of Public Safety’s ability to comply with standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155 or www.calea.org.

In 2011, Rowan Public Safety became the first university in New Jersey to attain prestigious CALEA accreditation, considered the gold standard of public safety professional excellence. The department was re-accredited in 2014 and 2017. Only 50 public safety departments at colleges and universities across the nation have achieved CALEA accreditation.
