Changes to summer academics and activities

While we hope that life returns to some semblance of normalcy this summer, it’s in everyone’s best interests for the University to plan to continue self-distancing measures. Below is an update on decisions made so far, considering the urgency of planning and coordination involved. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Summer classes go online/remote
We are excited to announce that we will offer more than 500 courses this summer. Courses previously scheduled to be face-to-face are being reorganized and will be delivered either through regular online format (Canvas) or remotely with Blackboard, WebEx and other technologies. Updates will be available on the Course Registration webpage.

Undergraduate orientation
All in-person orientation programs scheduled for June are cancelled and a decision about orientation programs planned for July will be made later. Meanwhile, an existing online orientation program is available for any student/family who is not comfortable coming to campus (when the campus reopens).
All incoming undergraduate students will complete online orientation to learn more about our campus and resources prior to beginning classes. If we are able to offer a day on campus in July, students will have the opportunity to complete tasks in person at that time, such as course registration and creating ID cards. Attendance at these important transition experiences, whether online or in-person, will be tracked to ensure students are prepared to successfully begin the fall term.
For parent and family orientation, Rowan will host virtual webinars on such topics as housing, money matters, wellness and safety.

Campus meetings and activities
Below are events and activities and programs cancelled for the summer. There are others, some of which are scheduled for July and August, that tentatively are still scheduled but a final decision will be made in the coming weeks.

Residential summer events
All are cancelled. Contracted parties and groups affected by this decision will be notified in writing and organizers may be asked to create a virtual camp experience that can be held online.

All organizers of residential camps should notify campers immediately that their event has been cancelled and that we hope to hold an in-person, non-residential camp. A decision on in-person, non-residential camps will be made by May 15. If it is decided that an in-person, non-residential camp experience is not viable, the camp may be held virtually. However, if organizers do not believe they can offer an online camp experience, they must notify registrants immediately that the camp is cancelled and begin the process of issuing refunds.

Non-residential summer events
All events in June are cancelled. Rowan has only one non-residential summer event planned for July. A decision about that program will be made by May 12.

Athletics
All Athletics events/camps planned through June are cancelled. Organizers of camps that would start in June and run through July and/or August must notify registrants that the camp cannot start in June but that it may still run in July and August. A decision will be made by May 15. Organizers of camps who do not wish to push their start date back to July must immediately notify registrants that the camp is cancelled. Decisions about events planned solely for August will be made at a later date.
