U.S. News & World Report, which in September ranked Rowan #79 among public universities and #166 among National Universities for its “Best Colleges 2020” edition, this week went one better, including the University among the best schools in the world.

Announced Oct. 21, the sixth annual Best Global Universities Rankings included six New Jersey colleges and universities: Princeton, Rutgers-New Brunswick, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers-Newark, Stevens Institute of Technology and Rowan.

The top five schools on the list are Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California—Berkeley and University of Oxford.

Based on academic research and reputation, the study allows students to compare universities around the world – 1,500 schools across 81 nations.

To determine the list, U.S. News started with academic research, comparing only schools where faculty published at least 1,500 papers from 2013 to 2017. It then compared up to 13 “indicators” such as global and regional research reputation, books published, highly cited papers and the percentage of total publications that are among the 10 percent most cited.
