Second annual President’s Student Art Showcase features work in Bole Hall, President's home
In what is fast becoming a tradition, works of art created by Rowan students are gracing the lobby and halls of Bole Administration Building, just outside the President’s Office, and at President and Mrs. Houshmand’s home.
Pieces in the exhibits, created during the 2017-18 academic year, include photographs, metals, ceramics, paintings, pen and ink drawings, mixed media and more.
Many of the works included in this, the second annual President’s Student Art Showcase, are for sale.
Dean Sanford Tweedie of the College of Communication & Creative Arts noted, “I find so much of our students’ works compelling that I have purchased several pieces for my home and office.”
The Department of Art offers a diverse blend of disciplines and programs including painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, metals/jewelry, ceramics, photography, biomedical art and visualization, animation, video, illustration, art history and art education.
Students in the program are challenged to express themselves through creative problem solving, a process that provides a technological foundation that prepares them for twenty first century careers in art and design.
“As a university community, we celebrate the showcase of student designs and artwork as tangible examples of creativity by the next generation who will contribute to the regional and national economy by exemplifying the skills needed to excel in the 21st century,” said Department of Art Chair Skeffington Thomas. “The range of work from design, illustration, fine arts and crafts, that represent students seeking certification to teach or a professional degree in the arts, who will be entrepreneurs or will go on to a graduate degree, speaks to the depth of opportunity for studies in the arts and design.”
The works on display, selected to highlight a wide range of expression in art and design, are changed annually.
