Rowan now ranked among best NATIONAL universities
A message from Rowan University President Dr. Ali
Houshmand:
We have reached many important milestones over the past decade but few will have the effect on our university as our latest leap. I am proud to announce U.S. News & World Report has entered Rowan into its NATIONAL UNIVERSITY rankings category.
The shift from “regional” to “national” university status is a result of our designation as a doctoral university by Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education earlier this summer. While we proudly have worn the title of a state research institution since 2013, these two new designations significantly broaden our recognition on a national level. As a national university, we look forward to earning more research grants and funding, and this strengthens our ability to continue to attract the best and brightest to Rowan University.
Top 90 National Public
The U.S. News 2018 Best Colleges ranking places Rowan University at #90 among the public institutions ranked and #171 overall among 311 national universities. Rowan is tied with Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Central Florida, Mississippi State University and University of Idaho.
Engineering ranked #19
The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was ranked #19 in the nation among the best undergraduate engineering schools. The ranking is a 14-place improvement since just four years ago, when the College placed 33rd in the annual report. Rowan tied with top programs at six other prestigious schools: The Citadel, Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University, San Jose State University, Swarthmore College and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Other recent recognitions
The U.S. News announcements come at a time when others have also recognized our momentum.
- According to the 2017-18 Almanac for The Chronicle of Higher Education, Rowan University is the seventh-fastest growing public doctoral institution from 2005-2015, with 65.5 percent growth in enrollment.
- Rowan recently ranked 38th among the top 100 safest colleges judged from among more than 2,000 institutions by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, which comprises companies and individuals in the home safety and security industries.
- For the third time in three years, CollegeNET ranked Rowan among the top three schools in the nation for “social mobility,” a benchmark of Rowan’s capacity to educate students and for students to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
These are truly exciting times for Rowan University. The 2016-17 academic year was our most productive in recent history with four new buildings, tremendous growth in academic programs and more. Now, with increased national recognition, a groundswell of support from alumni and partner organizations, plus $1 billion in construction being planned, Rowan will continue to be on the rise.
The great value of a Rowan degree is certain. The growing impact of Rowan research and innovation has never been greater. The pride in what we are accomplishing together is ours to share and celebrate.
