Rowan’s College of Education, Banneker Preparatory Charter School to collaborate to assist students, aspiring teachers

Officials from Rowan University’s College of Education and Willingboro’s Benjamin Banneker Preparatory Charter School (BBPCS) have entered into an agreement to collaborate to support scholars from the charter school who are considering careers in the field of education.
During a ceremony earlier this month, College of Education Dean Monika Williams Shealey and BBPCS Chief Executive Officer and Lead Administrator Richard Wilson, Jr. signed the agreement on Rowan’s Glassbo0ro campus.
Under the agreement, Rowan will work with BBPCS to develop pipeline programs and to increase the placements of teacher education candidates at the charter school in the coming years. BBPCS will expand to include ninth- and tenth-grade students in the coming years.
The agreement underscores the commitment of the Rowan’s College of Education to address issues of access, success, and equity and demonstrates a willingness to engage in meaningful partnerships with institutions that serve diverse students, Shealey notes.
“Our unique partnership with Benjamin Banneker Preparatory Charter School represents an opportunity to build interest and excitement about college and the education profession,” she says.
Adds Wilson: “I believe this agreement with the College of Education at Rowan University is an excellent opportunity for our school and our current, and future, scholars. “I am really excited that our educational program will be embarking upon a journey that will help us reach our goal in becoming a college preparatory school."
