At Rowan Graduate Commencement: Levine to speak to graduates; Bartolozzi to receive honorary degree

Nationally recognized educator Dr. Arthur Levine will give the address and prominent Philadelphia-area team physician Dr. Arthur R. Bartolozzi will receive an honorary degree during Rowan University’s main Graduate Commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 15, at 10 a.m. in Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.

Levine is the sixth president of the Princeton-based Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, which identifies and develops leaders and institutions to meet the nation’s critical challenges. The foundation administers a portfolio of fellowships intended both to strengthen American education and to address urgent contemporary challenges. Among them, the pervasive achievement gap between Americans by race and income.

A former president and professor of education at Teachers College, Columbia University, Levine also is a former chair of the higher education program, chair of the Institute for Educational Management and senior lecturer at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Among his many publications is 2012’s Generation on a Tightrope: A Portrait of Today’s College Student, published in 2012.

Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi

The former team physician for the Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers and Phantoms and a nationally recognized leader in sports medicine and joint replacement, Bartolozzi has treated world-class athletes in every sport. He performs hundreds of surgeries annually.

Bartolozzi has served as the team physician for Rowan University student athletes for more than two decades and has been a mentor to the University’s student and professional athletic trainers. In 2012, he was inducted into the Rowan Athletic Trainer Hall of Fame.

Past recipient of the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association Moyer Award, Bartolozzi will accept an honorary Doctor of Letters degree for his contributions to Rowan University, athletics and health care.

In addition to the main Graduate ceremony this year, Rowan also will hold three individual ceremonies.

The College of Education will honor master’s and doctoral graduates at its secondary ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in Wackar Stadium.

The Graduate School’s secondary ceremony will recognize master’s degree graduates at 11:30 a.m. in the Rec. Center.

The Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine will hold its ceremony at 1 p.m. in Wilson Hall’s Pfleeger Concert Hall.
