Sun National Bank has signed a lease for a new retail branch in the first floor of The Whitney Center on Rowan Boulevard in Glassboro, N.J.  Sun is the only bank to open a retail branch in downtown Glassboro in 18 years – since First Fidelity Bank closed its offices at the corner of Main and High Streets in 1995.

Sun National Bank plans to open the Glassboro branch in August 2013. The bank customized a prototype design to accommodate a 1,500 square-foot space in the building. The new Glassboro location will feature two ATMs, a coin-counting machine, flat-screen monitors that will broadcast Sun information (including loan and savings rates, a Twitter feed and Rowan University's upcoming events and athletic calendar), two welcoming teller stations, a private office for customer meetings and other branch amenities, in a well-appointed, inviting environment. Convenient parking is located behind the building and along Rowan Boulevard, and the downtown storefront branch location easily accommodates pedestrian traffic.

"This state-of-the art Sun branch was designed to serve the needs of the local community, including Rowan University students, faculty and staff, as well as local merchants and residents in Glassboro," said Thomas X. Geisel, president and CEO, Sun National Bank. "We look forward to providing this community with accessibility, convenience, personal service and the most desirable banking products and services available."

"We are proud to welcome Sun National Bank to the Whitney Center. Sun is known for its unique combination of big-bank services and products with the friendly, personal approach and service philosophy of a community bank. Sun joins an esteemed group of tenants and other local businesses here in Glassboro, and we look forward to a productive relationship with the bank and its staff," said Glassboro Councilwoman Ingres Simpson.

The Whitney Center includes first-floor retail space, with housing, office and classroom space for Rowan University's honors students on floors two through five. The building opened to student residents in September 2011. Two restaurant concepts – Green Zebra and PRIME Burger – are already open. In addition to the Sun National Bank commitment, The Whitney Center will welcome Ry's Bagels, Yapple Yogurt and Forever Young Emporium this spring.

Rowan Boulevard is a $300 million public-private partnership spearheaded by the Borough of Glassboro along with private developers and Rowan University. New Jersey's largest municipal redevelopment project, current construction includes a 129-room Marriott Courtyard Hotel, a multi-tier parking structure and a second mixed-use retail and academic building. All three buildings are slated to open on the Boulevard in August 2013.
