Rowan profs to present readings of two new young adult novels at Barnes & Noble

Two new young adult novels, penned by professors at Rowan University, will take center stage on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m., when Lisa Jahn-Clough and Evan Roskos read from their works at the University’s Barnes & Noble Superstore on Rowan Boulevard.

A writing arts professor in Rowan’s College of Communication & Creative Arts, Jahn-Clough will read from Nothing But Blue, a gripping survival story of a young woman who “learns, with the help of a seemingly magical stray dog and kind people along the road, that the important thing is to live,” according to the book’s web site.

Nothing But Blue (Houghton Mifflin/Harcourt) is Jahn-Clough’s 16^th book and third young adult novel. She joined Rowan’s faculty in 2010 and teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in creative writing, writing children’s stories, and writing the graphic novel. Jahn-Clough has taught at Emerson College, Maine College of Art, Vermont College of Fine Arts and Hamline University.

Roskos, an adjunct English professor and alumnus of Rowan’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences, will read from his debut novel, Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets. Also published by Houghton Mifflin/Harcourt, the book tells the story of “a boy who talks to an imaginary pigeon therapist and obsessively quotes the poet Walt Whitman,” according to Roskos’ web site.

Recipient of numerous literary awards while a Rowan student, Roskos earned his English degree in 2000 from the University. He holds an MFA from Rutgers University-Newark and also teaches literature and writing courses at Rutgers-Camden.
