Atlantic Brass Band concert marks 25 years of performances

To celebrate the completion of its 25th year of performing, Atlantic Brass Band offers a special concert at Rowan University on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at 7 pm in Pfleeger Concert Hall.

An ensemble-in-residence at Rowan, ABB’s concert will feature music from the band’s rich history including the music from the band’s very first contest: Vizcaya and Blow Away the Morning Dew. The program also includes Peter graham’s Celebrate Rotary, Philip Sparke’s Song and Dance, Harry James & Jack Mathias’ Trumpet Blues and Cantabile, Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin, John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen, Astero Piazzolla’s  Desde Argentina, Eric Ball’s Resurgam and more. As an added bonus, former members of the band will join in for the final number of the night, the march Simoraine by Clive Barraclough.

Under the direction of Salvatore Scarpa, Atlantic Brass Band is one of the premier performing ensembles in southern New Jersey and comprises professional musicians, professors, educators, and community members. Since 1984, ABB has entertained countless audiences throughout the Delaware Valley. Performances throughout the year at events including the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Cape May Victorian Week, Villanova University commencement exercises and other ceremonies and festivals, The band has also performed internationally with a tour of Italy and 2 tours of England. ABB is a British-style brass band, with approximately 30-piece instrumentation. They are a long-time member of the North American Brass Band Association and has consistently competed in NABBA in the championship division. In recent years, the band has been privileged to host such distinguished musicians as Steve Sykes, Gary Cutt, Mark Frost, Ronald Waiksnoris, Tyrone Breuninger, Stephen Bulla, Dr. Steven Allen, Philip Hannevik, the Avonbank Brass Band, Philip Smith, Maynard Ferguson, and Dr. Nicholas Childs.

Pfleeger Concert Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University, Route 322 in Glassboro. Admission is free and open to the public.
