Rowan University has appointed James Snyder, of Ocean View, as senior director of development.

Snyder comes to the campus from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, where he served as vice president for development and external affairs. He also has worked as a consultant providing fundraising services to not-for-profit educational organizations in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania; director of development at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y.; and vice president of the University at Buffalo Foundation, Inc., Buffalo, N.Y. He also was associate director of development at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and director of annual giving and coordinator of the parents program and secretary for alumni annual giving at Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., from which he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology/sociology.

Snyder is or has been a member and/or officer of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Kentucky College Public Relations Association, Association of Campus Related Foundations, American Association of Medical Colleges, National Society of Fund Raising Executives, and Greater Rochester YMCA, among other organizations. Throughout his career, he has won numerous awards for his work and volunteer efforts from organizations such as United States Steel Corporation, CASE, the State University of New York College and University Relations Council and the Association of Campus Related Foundations.

At Rowan, Snyder, a former U.S. Army captain, will be responsible for major gifts fundraising for the University's academic colleges and professional programs, among other efforts.
