International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma has named Rowan University Rohrer College of Business graduate Jesse Liszkiewicz, of Washington Township, winner of a $1,000 Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship.
In its 95th year dedicated to recognizing excellence in the study and practice of business, Beta Gamma Sigma presented the award to Liszkiewicz for his superior performance in the study of business and to continue his education in 2008-09. Liszkiewicz graduated summa cum laude from Rowan in May with a bachelor's degree in accounting. To honor his accomplishment, Beta Gamma Sigma provided $500 and the Rohrer College of Business matched $500 to award the $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship also was a direct result of the Rohrer College of Business having achieved premier chapter status in 2007; Beta Gamma Sigma awards such grants only to students in premier chapters.
Among his many activities at Rowan, in addition to being a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, Liszkiewicz was president of the Golden Key International Honour Society, a Student Government Association senator representing the Rowan University Accounting Society and a participant in the school's Accounting Mentorship Program. He also participated in the 2007 New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) Scholars Institute, and he is a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He participated in Rowan's 2007 and 2008 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Programs, which helped students and low-income residents from the region prepare their income taxes. This spring, Rowan presented him with the Outstanding Business Student Medallion Award. A Presidential and Rohrer College of Business Scholarship recipient, Liszkiewicz received 2007 NJSCPA Undergraduate and 2008 NJSCPA Graduate Scholarships.
Since 1988, Beta Gamma Sigma and its member deans have awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships to outstanding student members from around the world. The Society is proud that its contributions have helped "the best in business" reach their academic and professional goals.
Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a bachelor's or master's program at a school accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 10 percent of their junior or senior class or upper 20 percent of the graduating master's class. Members inducted each year join an expanding worldwide network of more than 580,000 business professionals.
