?Cosmic Catastrophes? now happening at Rowan Planetarium

How will the world end? That's the subject of the new public star show, "Cosmic Catastrophes," at the Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University. The show will be presented every Saturday night at 7 p.m. through June 21.

"Cosmic Catastrophes" is a different sort of presentation than is typical at the Edelman. A serious science fiction story serves as the framework for the show. A race of alien beings is fleeing the destruction of its star, searching for a suitable planet on which to live.

Upon reaching the Earth, the aliens find that there are already intelligent beings living here, and they also discover that the Earth is subject to destruction from several different sources. Their supercomputer, Archive, helps them understand the dangers of asteroid bombardment, exploding stars and human-generated pollution, among other threats - but the final solution to their dilemma is found at a baseball game!

Also showing on Saturday nights at 8:30 is "Laser Nirvana," a laser light show that includes some of the best music from the band created by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic. "Laser Nirvana" features songs like "Love Buzz" and "Pennyroyal Tea," accompanied by the newest laser blasts from the visual artists at Laser Fantasy International.

Admissions fees for either show are $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12, $3 for Rowan students with ID, and $3 for seniors over 60.
