Rowan Planetarium returns to Saturn

The Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University will host "Ring World 2," the story of the NASA space probe Cassini and its mission to Saturn on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. starting January 26 and continuing through April 6.

A sequel to "Ring World," a planetarium show that dealt with events before Cassini reached Saturn, this show will present the discoveries made since the probe went into orbit in July 2004.

Visitors will see ice geysers on the moon Enceladus; close-ups of the surprising rings, which turn out to me more dynamic and complex than anyone suspected; northern lights raging on the planet Jupiter; and the mysterious, enormous ridge of ice on the two-faced moon, Iapetus.

Viewers will be able to descend to the surface of Titan, the only moon in the solar system possessing an atmosphere, and view movies of the cold surface of this satellite as the mini-probe Huygens saw it revealed. They'll also see a fierce thunderstorm on Saturn that was larger than the United States.

The star show is narrated by John Billingsley, a cast member of the TV series "Star Trek: Voyager."

Admission to "Ring World 2" is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 13, Rowan students with ID and seniors older than 60.

Also playing at the planetarium is the laser light show "Laser Sublime." Laser shows run on Friday nights at 8:30; admission fees for the laser show are the same as for the planetarium star show.

Tickets are available at the door for either or both shows starting at 6:45 p.m. The planetarium is located on the north side of Route 322 east of the large parking lot A.
