Rowan University will host a Guidance Counselor Conference for Project Lead the Way (PLTW) on Friday, February 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the atrium of Rowan Hall (the College of Engineering building located off Bowe Boulevard, Glassboro).

A national, not-for-profit organization, PLTW forms partnerships among middle and high schools, higher education institutions and business and industry to provide students with the background they need to pursue science, engineering or engineering technology programs in college and to increase the quantity and quality of scientists, engineers and engineering technologists graduating from the U.S. education system, according to the organization. PLTW is now offered in more than 49 states and the District of Columbia.

Rowan University is the New Jersey State Affiliate University for PLTW, and it provides support for teacher and counselor training and works directly with schools implementing the program.

The February 8 conference will offer an overview of the PLTW program geared toward guidance counselors in active PLTW schools, which are required to send guidance counselors to training at least every three years. Teachers and administrators are welcome to attend as well.

During the conference, students from area certified PLTW high schools will present examples of the work they have performed in their PLTW classes.  The day also will include sessions on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education Workforce in New Jersey and under-represented groups in the engineering field.  There will be an opportunity for questions and interaction with other educators and guidance counselors regarding their PLTW programs.

There is no registration fee for this conference, and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
