Two Rowan University public relations students received awards during the national conference of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) held recently in Philadelphia.

Senior Rosie Braude of Dayton received the $1,500 Betsy Plank PRSSA scholarship, while sophomore Rebecca Timms of Haddon Township received the Altschul Champions for PRSSA Outstanding Internship Award.

A 2004 graduate of South Brunswick High School, Braude is president of Rowan PRSSA, overseeing a 16-member Executive Board. A French minor, Braude served as co-conference coordinator of the PRSSA National Conference, which was co-hosted by Rowan and Howard Universities.

Braude also received a National President's Citation at the PRSSA conference. She was one of three students nationally to receive the Betsy Plank scholarship. Braude has worked in Rowan's Office of University Events for the past two years.

Timms, a 2006 graduate of King's Christian High School, received the $300 outstanding internship award in recognition of her academic excellence in public relations and strong practical performance in the field through outstanding success in an internship.

This past summer, Timms completed an internship with Thomas/Boyd Communications in Moorestown and assisted the firm with media relations efforts for the filming of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition show in Camden and Pennsauken.

The sixth annual Altschul Award also presented Thomas/Boyd with a certificate recognizing the firm's support of public relations students.

Timms, who is pursuing a minor in political science, was co-logistics director for the PRSSA national conference. A member of Rowan's PRSSA Executive Board, Timms also serves as a liaison between the group and the Philadelphia and New Jersey Public Relations Society of America chapters. In that capacity, she coordinates events such as public relations agency tours and Mentor Nights.
