"A Tribute to Euler," a free public lecture celebrating the 300th
birthday of famous 18th century mathematician Leonhard Euler, will
be presented on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Rowan
Hall Auditorium at Rowan University.
Rowan's mathematics department is hosting the event, which will feature a guest lecture by William Dunham, Truman Koehler Professor of Mathematics at Muhlenberg College.
Dunham's talk will include a presentation on Euler's life and his contributions to number theory, algebra, and other branches of mathematics.
Dunham is the author of five books: "Journey Through Genius" (1990); "The Mathematical Universe" (1994); "Euler: The Master of Us All" (1999); "The Calculus Gallery: Masterpieces from Newton to Lebesgue" (2005) and "The Genius of Euler: Reflections on His Life and Work" (2007).
Dunham has spoken on historical topics at national and regional meetings, as well at the Smithsonian Institution, on NPR's "Talk of the Nation: Science Friday," and on the BBC.
For information on the event, contact Abdul Hassen, hassen@rowan.edu or 256-4500, ext. 3888.
