Rowan University Writing Arts professor Denise Gess will discuss the deadliest fire in the nation's history on The Weather Channel this Sunday, April 15.

Gess will appear on the channel's special, five-part documentary program, "The 100 Biggest Weather Moments." Co-author of the 2002 book "Firestorm at Peshtigo," Gess will discuss the 1871 fire, which obliterated the town of Peshtigo, Wis. in less than an hour. Nearly 2,000 people died in the fire, which occurred on the same day as the Great Chicago Fire.

The special, which was produced in celebration of The Weather Channel's 25th anniversary and runs through Thursday, April 19, is hosted by Harry Connick, Jr. The series also includes interviews with celebrities such as Rudy Giuliani, Bill Cosby, Bob Costas, Garth Brooks, and others discussing the nation's 100 top weather-related events.
