Rowan University Celebrates Asian-Pacific Heritage Month

From Tai Chi to cultural festivals, Rowan University will celebrate Asian-Pacific Heritage Month with a host of activities. The following is a list of events being held at the University. All programs are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
Monday, April 2
"Chinese Feminism: A Personal Reflection," presented by Professor Yan Yu, a Fulbright Scholar and visiting professor, 3:15-4:30 p.m. - Robinson Hall Room 105.
"Flutes of the World Festival: The Shakuhachi" - James Nyoraku Schlefer will perform and discuss spiritual history and use of instruments in a performance, 6-9:30 p.m., Boyd Recital Hall in Wilson Hall.
Thursday, April 5
"Education of People with Disabilities in China," presented by Professor Meng Deng, a Fulbright Scholar and professor of education at Central China Normal University, 12:15-1:30 p.m., Education Hall Room 1119.
Monday, April 9
"Yin-Yang Theory and Chinese Medical Practices," presented by Dr. Chun Lang Sum of the Oriental Healing Center in Philadelphia, 11 a.m.- noon, Science Building Room 128.
Tuesday, April 12
"Tai Chi Workshop," demonstrated by Professor Aiguo Han, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Student Center patio (inclement weather: Student Center Room 129).
"Asian Culture Festival," featuring an Asian fashion show, singing, dancing, martial arts demonstration, food and bubble tea, 9-10:30 p.m., Student Center Pit.
Sunday, April 15
"Philadelphia Cherry Blossom Festival and Dim Sum Trip" - Bus trip to Philadelphia's Fairmont Park to see the cherry blossoms and a stop in Chinatown for dim sum. Bus leaves the Student Center at 11 a.m. and will return at 6 p.m. Tickets are $7 each.

"How Do Foreign Students Learn English? Cross-cultural Adjustment/Learning Experience," presented by Professor Xiufang Chen, 11 a.m-12:30 p.m., Student Center

Thursday, April 19
"Tai Chi Workshop," demonstrated by Professor Aiguo Han, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Student Center patio (inclement weather: Student Center Room 129).
Friday, April 20
"Dining for Diversity: The Asian Experience" - Rowan faculty, staff and students will take part in a culinary competition, 5-6 p.m., tower of Campbell Library.
Monday, April 23
"Confucianism and Global Ethics," presented by Professor On-cho Ng,, 3:15-4:30 p.m., Student Center Room 129.
"Flutes of the World Festival: Making It Your Own" - Jazz musician and professor Denis DiBlasio will discuss ways to integrate music into personal style. His talk will be followed by a recital, 6-9:30 p.m., Boyd Recital Hall in Wilson Hall.
Tuesday, April 24
"Asian Extravaganza," featuring Asian dancing, singing, martial arts and the Peking Opera, 7-9 p.m., Boyd Recital Hall in Wilson. Tickets are $5 each (group discounts available).
Wednesday, April 25
"Asian Cultural Luncheon," featuring a discussion by Nicola Di Cosmo, author and professor at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study, 10:50 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Student Center 144. RSVP is required with Denise Williams (williamsd@rowan.edu). Faculty tickets are $12 before March 31 and $14 after. Student tickets are $10.
Thursday, April 26
"ACA Recognition Banquet," a multi-course Asian dinner at Tai Lake Restaurant in Philadelphia's Chinatown honoring Asian Studies scholarship recipients. Bus will leave the Student Center at 6 p.m.
