Honorary degrees to go to Linda M. Rohrer and Keith S. and Shirley Campbell

Susan Bass Levin, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and a former longtime mayor of Cherry Hill, will give the address at Rowan University's 82nd annual Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 12, at 10 a.m. on the University Green.

Levin, who was appointed in January to her second stint as DCA commissioner, will address 2,700 undergraduate students participating in the ceremony.

Also at the ceremony, the University will award honorary degrees to longtime Rowan supporters and South Jersey philanthropists Linda M. Rohrer and Keith S. and Shirley Campbell.

In her work leading the DCA, Levin, who served as mayor of Cherry Hill for 14 years, oversees the state's Divisions of Local Government Services, Codes & Standards, Community Resources, Housing, Fire Safety, and the Division of Women, the Office of Smart Growth and the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development.

Recipient of numerous community and state awards, she has served on the boards of Ceasefire New Jersey, the Women's Fund of New Jersey, the Alliance for Action and the South Jersey Development Council.

Rohrer and the Campbells will receive honorary Doctor of Humanities degrees from Rowan in recognition of their community involvement, service to the region and support of the University.

A Haddon Township resident, Rohrer is president and broker of record for Rohrer & Sayers Real Estate in Haddon Township. She also chairs the board of 1st Colonial National Bank of Collingswood.

She is or has been involved in a number of organizations, including the Haddon Township Business Improvement District, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Salvation Army, among others.

Last year, Rohrer presented a $10 million gift to Rowan's College of Business on behalf of The William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation. It was the third major gift to Rowan from the foundation, named for her late father. Rohrer also served on the advisory board for the College of Business for a decade and is a member of the Rowan University Foundation board.

Chairman of the board of Mannington Mills, Inc. in Salem County, a fourth-generation family-owned company, Keith Campbell was a member of Rowan's Board of Trustees from 1993-2005, serving as chairman from 1999-2002. He chaired the University's capital campaign and was a member of the board of the Rowan University Foundation.

Campbell, who has been instrumental in the revitalization of downtown Salem, has served on the board of directors of both the New Jersey and South Jersey Chambers of Commerce and is a trustee of the United Way of Salem County. Shirley Campbell is a board member of Ranch Hope and has served on the board of Salem Care. Together, the Campbells are active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Salem.

The Campbells' $1.5 million donation to Rowan in 2000 created an endowment for the University Library, which houses more than 350,000 books, documents and multimedia materials. The library was later renamed the Keith S. and Shirley Campbell Library. The Campbells are residents of Salem.

In a return to University tradition, Rowan will hold a separate commencement ceremony for graduate students on Thursday, May 11, at 4:30 p.m., at John Page Field, the athletic stadium at the corner of Carpenter Street and Bowe Boulevard.
