National award recognizes public affairs program 'The Women's Room'

GLASSBORO ? Rowan Radio?s weekly public affairs progam ?The Women?s Room? will receive the station?s first-ever National Gracie Allen Award from the American Women in Radio and Television, Inc. this June.

The winning show, hosted by Rowan senior Kelly King, aired last September on WGLS-FM. It featured an interview with Roberta Obler, a breast cancer survivor who now volunteers for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. During the show, King and Obler discussed the importance of early breast cancer detection and prevention.

The National Gracie Allen Awards are named for comedienne and activist Gracie Allen, who was an early trailblazer for women in radio and television. The Gracies recognize the realistic portrayal of women in a host of venues, including news and feature programming.

The award, which featured entries from all major networks, including ABC, CBS, CNBC and NBC, will be presented to Rowan Radio staff during the National Gracie Allen Awards Gala June 20 in New York City.

King, a radio/television/film major at Rowan, is a resident of Washington Township.
