Rowan University has appointed Dr. Patricia Mosto, of Pitman, as interim associate provost for academic affairs through June 30, 2006.

Mosto is currently the chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. In her new position, Mosto will assist the interim provost with the daily operations of the University?s Division of Academic Affairs, including matters pertaining to curriculum and pedagogical innovation and development, enrollment management and policy and faculty development.

She earned a Ph.D. in environmental biology from the University of Buenos Aires ? Argentina, an M.S. in environmental science from Drexel University, an M.A. in phycology from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. in aquatic biology from the University of Buenos Aires ? Argentina and a National Teacher Certification from Teachers College N 6 ? Argentina.

At Rowan, Mosto was or is founder and chair-elect of the Rowan University Chair Council, vice president and secretary of the University Senate, acting director and board member of the Faculty Center, board member of the Professional Women?s Network Advisory Board, board member of the Honors Advisory Board and board member of the Women?s Studies Advisory Board. She has served on many Rowan University committees, including Academic Policy and Procedures, Curriculum, Divisional Planning for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee (chair), Master Plan Committee, New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and UJIMA (minority female mentoring program).

Mosto joined the Rowan faculty in 1993 after working at Bucks County Community College; Drexel University; University of Buenos Aires; and Pedagogic Center, Buenos Aires.

She has conducted research for the Naval Service for Investigation and Development in Argentina; Rohm & Hass Corporation, PA; Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia; Department of Water and Power, Los Angeles; and the University of Buenos Aires, among numerous other organizations.

An author of book chapters, technical papers and peer-reviewed articles in professional journals, Mosto also has presented extensively on a variety of science topics as well as pedagogical subjects at the regional, national and international levels. She has received numerous research grants from such sources as the National Science Foundation, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Argentina Ministry of Defense and the American Water Works Association.

Mosto is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of Higher Education, American Institute of Chemical Engineering, American Water Works Association, Argentine Association of Natural Sciences, Defenders of Wildlife, Hispanic Association for Higher Education and other organizations.

Active in the community, including serving on the Pitman Environmental Commission, Mosto has received numerous awards for her academic work.
